MVP and Sherri Shepherd at the Prom

Montel Vontavious Porter was in a wrestling ring on Friday body slamming his opponent and getting put in a headlock.

On Saturday night, the World Wrestling Entertainment superstar was dancing at the prom.

Porter, better known as MVP, escorted The View's Sherri Shepherd to the prom at Hoffman Estates High School. Shepherd graduated from Hoffman Estates but never went to her prom.

"Her father was really strict," said MVP about Shepherd missing her prom. "And she didn't fit in growing up. It didn't work out."

MVP bounced around from high school to high school in Miami and didn't get the full prom experience either. The United States Champion said he happened to be in the same area where his prom took place and stopped by wearing shorts and sneakers to see what it was like.

"I showed up, saw the girls that were there and realized I made a big mistake," said MVP, whose real name is Hassan Assad. "I was like, 'I should have been here.' But I had to be a tough guy and not let anyone see that I regretted it."...More?

Potential Booms and Busts of the WWE Draft

Two weeks after announcing roster changes, WWE officially unveiled new talent lineups on all three of its television brands ("Raw," "Smackdown" and "Extreme Championship Wrestling"). A whopping 36 performers were swapped, the highest total since the WWE began conducting its annual draft in 2002.

In theory, the draft's main purpose is to create new headline matches and give up-and-coming wrestlers the chance to climb WWE's talent ladder.

Unlike with NFL draft picks, it doesn't take several years to judge whether grapplers will flourish in their new WWE surroundings. After the first week of programming, here's a look at this draft's potential booms and busts:

Boom

The Miz, MVP & Carlito and Primo Colon

Busts

The Brian Kendrick, Mr. Kennedy, Zack Ryder, Curt Hawkins, Jesse and Festus

WWE's Goldmine of Talent

Matt Saye of wrestlingtruth.com discusses WWE's Goldmine of young talent that could easily lead the company if given the opportunity:

WWE has many “gold” superstars sitting in their locker room right now. When I say ‘gold’ I don’t mean they’re literally gold, I mean that they are very talented and, if pushed right, could be ‘big money’.

In order of most deserving:

Christian
MVP
CM Punk
John Morrison
Mr Kennedy
Shelton Benjamin

MVP: Big things are poppin' again

This past Friday on SmackDown, General Manager Vickie Guerrero thought she had engineered a sure-fire way to kick Triple H out of Sunday’s Royal Rumble. But, Montel Vontavious Porter surprised both Guerrero and the WWE Universe by breaking his 20-week losing streak, beating Big Show in a Last Man Standing Match with a little help from an unlikely ally.

Inside even the most downtrodden WWE Superstar lives the heart of a lion that will never retreat and never surrender. In an absolutely grueling match, the combination of MVP’s straight ballin’ refusal to stay down - no matter what Big Show threw his way – and a hard-hitting shot from the mighty sledgehammer of The Game allowed MVP to literally rise to the occasion as The World’s Largest Athlete failed to beat the 10-count...More?

J.R. comments on the Triple H/MVP match

From J.R.'s fan nation blog:

As an old school wrestling fan, the FNSD main event this week between Triple H vs. MVP was a really enjoyable wrestling match. I love watching strategies unfold in the ring as opposed to seeing a dozen hurancaranas, six planchas and three topes all in the span of about how long it takes Gary Coleman to P.O. his fan.

SmackDown House Show Highlights - Montgomery, AL

Fan report:

Triple H and The Undertaker defeated MVP and The Great Khali. No Khali can’t wrestle, as this match exemplified, but one look at him live and you see why WWE keeps him around – the guy is a monster. Triple H and The Undertaker got extraordinary reactions – the response to HHH in particular nearly bust my ear drums. There is no doubt who the stars were on this show.

Anyway, the match began with a lot of stalling by MVP and HHH – which was kind of old at this point as it had been used throughout the night. MVP unsurprisingly did the bulk of work for his team – firstly on the receiving end of HHH and Undertaker’s offence, then, after a brief Khali appearance, he was the guy to dish out most of the attack. Khali locked in the vice-grip which Taker powered out of before a hot tag to HHH who cleaned house. A stereo chokeslam to MVP and Pedigree to Khali finished the bout before Undertaker and HHH took turns posturing to the crowd as they began to file out of the arena.

SmackDown House Show Highlights - Jacksonville, MS

HHH & Undertaker vs. Khali & MVP. This match lasted a long time with Hunter and Taker getting about equal time in the ring. MVP obviously worked most of the match for his team given who his partner was. End sequence has Taker getting double teamed taking out MVP, HHH getting the hot tag and him and Taker double team Khali. Hunter pedigrees Khali while Undertake choke slams MVP. SmackDown House Show Highlights - Monroe, LA

The main event was Undertaker and HHH vs MVP and Khali. MVP came out and dissed on the Mailman Karl Malone who was in attendance in front row, basically saying MVP was FEDEX because he delivers. Taker was dominated for most of the match until the hot tag to HHH. Taker with the chokeslam to MVP and HHH pedigreed Khali for the win...More?

SmackDown House Show Highlights - Jamestown, NY

In the main event, Kane, the Great Khali and MVP teamed up against Rey Mysterio, World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk and WWE Champion Triple H.

As each of the competitors made their way to the ring, the crowd seemed to get louder and louder, before finally erupting with the entrance of The Game, Triple H. As his music hit, people came rushing toward the ringside barriers, giving security a run for their money.

MVP took his time running around the ring and gesturing his usual taunt. The Game responded by mocking his taunt and ending with a DX chop, to which the crowd went wild.

It was an action-packed match with a lot of high flying and a crowd-pleasing finish, as Triple H led his team to victory...More?

Rumor Mill - MVP & J.R.'s Rib

Prowrestling.net is reporting that MVP upset members of WWE management recently by making a derogatory comment to one of the testers who watches the WWE performers while they submit urine samples. His comment inspired WWE head of talent relations John Laurinaitis to indirectly address the matter in locker room meeting. Laurinaitis instructed talent to be respectful of the testers. Those who were aware of the MVP story felt it was obvious that the meeting was held because of his incident.

From J.R.'s blog:

"Did you hear about the MAJOR altercation in the locker room area of a recent wrestling event where a top hand had it out with a tester. Seems as if someone in catering failed to test the mashed potatoes and they weren't creamy and buttery enough and there was quite the issue that ensued. Thank goodness that the fish that was throughly cooked that day or this matter could have gotten really ugly and made big news on the 'net. I hear a team meeting will be held to discuss this issue but that the potato matter won't be specifically addressed. Hey, being a tester and doing one's job can be very...'testy.'"
