TNA iMPACT! - New Year's Knockout Eve Recap
WWE Superstars Results: Ring in the New Year
In the main event of “WWE Superstars,” MVP joined with Chris Masters to take on their Raw brandmates, Jack Swagger & Carlito. Though The Ballin’ Superstar & The Masterpiece were fortunate enough to have the lovely Eve cheering them on from ringside, her support wasn’t enough to spur them onto victory. Carlito proved to be too much for Masters to handle as The Southpaw from San Juan pinned his opponent for the win. Full results.

ECW Results: An Original Goodbye
Tired of listening to taunts from Zack Ryder, Tommy Dreamer vowed that if he couldn’t defeat Ryder Tuesday night, he’d leave ECW forever, a strong statement from a Superstar who joined ECW in 1993. With all of his heart, soul and strength, Dreamer – a former two-time ECW Champion – fought the cocky youngster from Long Island, N.Y., but ultimately lost the night his career was on the line.
After a DDT from Dreamer, Ryder snuck his leg under the rope, stopping WWE Official Scott Armstrong’s three-count. Ryder was lucky to find himself in the right place at the right time. Moments later, Ryder countered Dreamer’s back suplex and pinned him, sealing the ECW Original’s fate.
Dreamer’s initial shock turned into emotion as he addressed the WWE Universe, recalling his first time in the Izod Center years ago, watching his second-ever WWE event – featuring a live Piper’s Pit – with his best friend and his father.
“This has been my dream since I was 9 years old and I think it totally proves if you have passion for what you do, you can make it anywhere. And I made it in ECW and I made it in WWE,” he said.
Dreamer went on to thank the old and the new ECW, and told the WWE Universe they are his family – a family he’ll miss.
“Thank you so much. I love you all so much,” he said, shedding a few tears.
With the loss, Dreamer – the final ECW Original on the WWE roster – left Tuesday nights, leaving his prized ECW T-shirt in the ring. Amid “E-C-Dub” chants from the WWE Universe, Dreamer paused to hug his wife at ringside and carried his daughters up the ramp as he said goodbye to the Land of the Extreme one final time. WWE Has Lucha Libre on the Ropes
It was fight night, and the souvenir vendors were out in force around the Arena Mexico, mecca for the Mexican style of pro wrestling known as lucha libre.
There were satin lucha libre masks for sale, posters of Mexican legends, such as Blue Demon and El Santo, and action figures of current Mexican wrestlers, such as MÃstico.
Jorge RodrÃguez, 5, wanted none of those. His eye was on a T-shirt featuring Jeff Hardy, an American star from World Wrestling Entertainment, the U.S. league. "I like them better. I'm going to have a WWE birthday party!" he gushed. Then a vendor walked by carrying a tiny WWE wrestling ring. "Oooooh! Mom!" RodrÃguez shouted.
In a country intensely proud of its wrestling tradition, the WWE is making an unprecedented push to win over Mexican fans, signing new television contracts, striking merchandising deals, launching a magazine and bringing its muscle-bound stars south of the border for live events.
"We've been working quite diligently (in Mexico) over the last couple of years," said Andrew Whitaker, president of WWE International. "It's a sea change in our brands and story lines."...More?

Raw Results: Pink and Black is Back
Never say never. Mr. McMahon accepted Bret “Hit Man” Hart’s request to serve as special guest host of the first Raw in 2010! While The Chairman initially declined the WWE Hall of Famer’s appeal, the goading of Shawn Michaels, of all people, appeared to change Mr. McMahon’s mind.
Michaels had interrupted The Chairman to ask for a rematch between himself and The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXVI. Mr. McMahon informed Michaels that not even he can impose his will upon The Deadman. At that point, HBK turned his attention to Hart, who he insisted he would be more than happy to see host Raw. After sharing a furtive glance with Michaels, The Chairman appeared to have a change of heart and gleefully granted Hart’s request. Full results.

Most Hated Wrestler of the Decade
He's played the role of a fan favorite for the last several years, there are still no shortage of wrestling fans who despise Triple H as much as they ever did. A lot of that has little to do with the tactics he employs in the ring, and everything to do with the tactics he employs backstage. Many feel his relationship wit the McMahon family through his marriage to Stephanie gives him and unfair advantage. But that's not quite fair. Triple H was well on his way to being an all-time great long before Stephanie became part of his life.

"Gorgeous George" Wagner died of a heart attack at 48
March 24, 1915 - December 26, 1963
Muhammad Ali acknowledged that his own approach to flamboyant self-promotion was influenced by George. A 19-year old Ali met a 46-year old George at a Las Vegas radio station. During George's radio interview, the wrestler's promo caught the attention of the future heavyweight champion. If George lost to Classy Freddie Blassie, George exclaimed, "I'll crawl across the ring and cut my hair off! But that's not gonna happen because I'm the greatest wrestler in the world!" Ali recalled, "I saw 15,000 people comin' to see this man get beat. And his talking did it. I said, 'This is a gooood idea!'" In the locker room afterwards, the seasoned wrestler gave the future legend some invaluable advice: "A lot of people will pay to see someone shut your mouth. WWE Superstars Results: Holiday Hostility
One wouldn’t think The Big Red Monster would be celebrating on Christmas Eve, but after defeating the very vicious Mike Knox, it seems that Kane has a reason to embrace the holiday spirit. It wasn’t easy, but that didn’t seem to bother SmackDown’s resident Red Monster, and in the end, after connecting with a devastating chokeslam, Kane got the 1-2-3. It seems only appropriate that the sadistic one’s trademark red be met with green envy after his win this holiday season. Full results.

The Gangsta Rapper Tully Blanchard
An article relating hip hop to wrestling:
I watched Ric Flair and The Four Horsemen with the boy the other night, and it really struck me how Bad Boy/Death Row these dudes were. The whole aesthetic--"private jets...finest women...most expensive cars...biggest house"--is basically what popular hip-hop became as it matured. And then of course emphasis on mike skills (someone in the doc literally called it that, I think it was Triple H) the ability to be able to talk, almost off the dome, and expound on the character your playing.
Likewise, there were all these moments where wall of reality came down. If you listen to Arn Anderson talk, it's really not clear when he's talking himself or when he's talking about the character he's playing. Less interesting, but still with on the same theme, is the Flair v. Bischoff beef. You have a guy basically cursing out his boss in front of millions of viewers, except he means it. Of course a lot of the similarities boil down to the respective target audience for wrestling and hip-hop--young boys. Hip-hop pulls from the post-pubescent angst, and wrestling pulls from post-pubescent fantasies. Of course the "rapping" in wrestling is ultimately centered around an actual fight, and is a little less meta. But while I loved watching, say, the Road Warriors do work, I think I liked listening to Ric Flair rap at least as much as I liked watching him wrestle.
A shout out to Triple-H, Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes. They all had some really sharp points about wrestling and what the Four Horsemen meant. Triple H had a great breakdown on how the Horsemen fit into the whole psychology of the 80s. He talked about how Dusty Rhodes, the son of the plumber, represented the common man going to war against Horsemen, on the representation of villainous, capitalist excess. And capitalist excess almost always won...More?

Wrestling's 10 Best Hidden Gems of the Decade
2000: The Rock vs. Triple H (Iron Man Match)
Make no mistake: 2000 was Triple H's year. While his more famous battles with Mick Foley stand out in most people's minds as the cream of the crop that year, his often forgotten classic with The Rock at Judgment Day was about as much fun as a wrestling fan could have in Y2K.
Going into the match, fans were wondering whether two guys with limited ring skill and no experience wrestling past the 40 minute mark could bring the goods the way HBK and Bret Hart has done so four years prior.
They did, delivering a match chocked with enough old school wrestling psychology to make Gordon Solie blush. After 58 minutes, with the pinfalls tied at 5 apiece, the "sports entertainment" beast reared its ugly head in the form of run-ins galore.
Triple H scored the fluke victory over The Rock, 6-5, after a returning Undertaker earned HHH the DQ decision at the bell. Minor blemishes aside, this is the match that both solidified HHH as a main event player, and gave The Rock the instant credibility he'd been lacking from the dwindling "wrestling purist" base. Nine years later, this match is still lacking the love from a DVD release.

Stone Cold Steve Austin on the Outdoor Channel's "Drop Zone!"
Jim Ross: "Too Many Wrestlers Who Failed to Save Their Money Find it Awfully Convenient to Put the Blame on the Companies That They Worked For..."
I have read so much about the unionizing of pro wrestling, which will never happen by the way in my view, and improving the working conditions for all the talents of which I wholeheartedly endorse by the way. Nonetheless, I know many wrestlers who were toward the end of their careers when I first got in the business in the 70's who were smart enough independent contractors to acquire the info they needed to prepare for their future being independent contractors much like non union carpenters, plumbers, etc. Would I like to see wrestlers with more traditional benefits, etc? Of course. Is it impossible for independent contractors to not be able to establish a quality life because they are independent contractors? Absolutely not.
Yes, in a "perfect world" all performers working for any company being full time employees with the traditional benefits would be ideal but the thought that individuals who are independent contractors cannot create their own benefits and take advantage of independent contractor status is not accurate.
Too many wrestlers who failed to save their money when they were earning good cash, that did not plan for their futures, and never bothered to file their income tax returns find it awfully convenient to put the blame on the companies that they worked for or, more specifically, the WWE because they are still in business after all these decades instead of accepting any responsibility for their own misdeeds and irresponsible lack of planning...More?

Wrestlers Try to Instill Mexican Tradition
If you look as you drive around town, you may see signs for something called, "Lucha Libre." It's a movement driven by Jesus Hernandez to show people that professional wrestling is more than just body slams and karate chops. "It's just a package of entertainment for the Hispanic community," said Hernandez.
Over the past year, hundreds (sometimes thousands) pack into venues like the National Western Complex to see masked men throw each other around the ring. "That's what we do for fun," said Hernandez. "We try to do as many shows as we can."
When Hernandez was growing up in Mexico, he learned the trade of Lucha Libre from some of the best wrestlers of his time. Now, he's teaching a new generation of wrestlers in a ring put together inside of a storage unit in Commerce City.

THQ, Jakks, WWE Settle Lawsuit Over Joint Venture
The settlement calls for THQ and Jakks to dissolve their joint venture at year's end, and for THQ to enter into a new, 8-year licensing agreement directly with WWE starting January 1, 2010, the companies said in a press release.
Under the settlement, THQ will pay WWE $13.2 million, and pay Jakks Pacific $20 million over the next four years in addition to royalties due for the period ending December 31.
The three companies had sued each other over enforcement of the contract, which began in 1999 and was set to expire on December 31.
The settlement calls for the companies to withdraw all claims and end all litigation without any party admitting to wrongdoing, the companies said.
Analysts estimated that THQ and Jakks each made about $20 million a year from the WWE deal.

“I have absolutely nothing but positive thoughts about coming here. This is literally a stress-free environment. Everyone is just like a big family. This is my first time experiencing that. The Definitive History of the WBF
As the final moments of the annual Mr. Olympia competition played out, there was nothing particularly memorable about the scene. What was going on in the lobby of the Arie Crown Theatre in those final few minutes was anything but however. A carefully calculated all-out ambush was about to occur. The man behind it was Vince McMahon, and the intentions were hostile.
Spectators sat restless in the Arie Crown Theatre while sponsors gave their pitches as the 1990 Mr. Olympia was coming to an end. What everyone was confronted with next was a total shock, even to Joe Weider and the competing athletes themselves. Vince McMahon spent $5,000 to secure a promotional booth for Bodybuilding Lifestyles, his new bodybuilding magazine. Tom Platz, the magazine's spokesman, stepped to the stage to promote the publication in front of the 4,600 bodybuilding fans in attendance . A few years back no-one would dare make this comparison, but these days it seems to be something that maybe needs to be discussed a little more. The UFC scene has long looked down its nose at the professional wrestling world, at least in the sense of the much hyped athleticism. Wrestlers are workers, for sure, but in terms of how dangerous they would be in the octagon – forget it. No matter how many tables Cactus Jack has been thrown through, he's still gonna tap on a well executed armbar, or get pounded defenseless against the right striker. Forget how much he loves the pain, his brain loves oxygen and a well set rear naked choke is going to take his ability to operate a sock puppet away – quickly...More?

ROH Champ Austin Aries Says Wrestlers Need Union Protection in WWE and TNA
Ring of Honor champion Austin Aries presented a strong argument that wrestlers in WWE and TNA should have union protection as actors since they're being slotted for roles in a TV show. Aries based his argument on WWE and TNA changing the characters and personalities of wrestlers coming from Ring of Honor or the independent scene to fit a certain role.
"This new idea that you’re going to come into our company and we’re going to change everything about you – I guess that’s the mentality that we’re all just kind of actors and we’re playing a part," Aries told Alfonso Castillo of Newsday. "I’ll follow that, but if that’s the way we’re going to do the business, let’s do it across the board. If we’re actors, then let’s be actors – and get the benefits of actors and be taken care of like actors. They kind of found this crack. I don’t know. It’s really interesting."
Aries added that it bothers him that WWE and TNA "discount" wrestlers coming up from the independent ranks as if what they do prior to joining the Big Two promotions "didn't mean anything."
"We (referring to himself, Bryan Danielson, and Nigel McGuinness) busted our a-- to make our names mean something, to be recognized in the wrestling business. And for them to just try to erase it so that they can feel like they’re the creator, it doesn’t much make much sense to me," Aries said. "Just because we’re on TV for another promotion doesn’t mean all the stuff we did here didn’t mean anything. Then why do they want me?"

WWE Superstars Results: Evening the Score
Fans of Raw are well familiar with the enmity between MVP and Jack Swagger, as the two have frequently found themselves circling one another like junkyard dogs. On the last “WWE Superstars,” the two ring warriors squared off with “The All-American American” leaving with his hand raised in victory. CM Punk Shoots on Hulk Hogan
CM Punk had some strong words regarding TNA Wrestling, and Hulk Hogan on the KISW radio show:
"I have a lot of friends that work there, and I do watch the show, but I seem to watch it on perpetual fast forward. I really hope something comes of it, but honestly I have zero faith in Hulk Hogan as a man who’s 60 years old and tries to dress like he’s 18 and lives on the Jersey Shore. And for a guy I’ve never met, I’ve formulated enough opinion about him just from being around him and his business acumen, and I really trust he’s not in this for TNA, he’s in this for himself, and you know, Hulk Hogan I hope you prove me wrong, I hope, because with this competition, we step up, everybody makes more money, and I think it makes the business healthier...and that’s what I’m looking forward to, but I don’t have much hope"

President Barack Obama has denied taping a special message for WWE's Tribute to the Troops TV show. Bret Hart Signs a Talent Deal With WWE
The Wrestling Observer is reporting that Bret Hart has signed a short-term talent contract with WWE that will go into effect on January 1st, 2010, and expire a couple weeks after WrestleMania 26. This makes it very possible that he will be guest hosting the January 4th edition of WWE Raw when it goes head-to-head with TNA Impact. Additionally, Bret could feasibly make further appearances for WWE if his contract is in fact as long as the report indicates.

New Champs - So What's the Problem?
Two new champions - Sheamus and Drew McIntyre - and the IWC is still complaining. for months, they have been begging the WWE to put titles on someone other than John Cena, Triple H, or Randy Orton. They have been pleading for matches that involved someone other than their "top" stars. The question was asked, "When is the WWE going to create new stars?"..."When are they going to elevate someone other than Cena, Hunter or Orton?"
Well, you got it last night. So, what's the problem?
The problem is that because Sheamus works out with Triple H and Drew McIntyre is rumored to be a Shawn Michaels/Triple H favorite - apparently neither one of them is worthy of the push. While I'm not sold yet on McIntyre I think Sheamus has star written all over him. If you don't give them a chance, how are we to know?
I have read on other sites that the IWC is questioning the lack of push for perennial favorite Shelton Benjamin. Last month, Jim Ross posted the following on his blog. Maybe Shelton falls into this category:
"At a certain point once a guy gets his foot in the door and he starts getting some time on TV, then they really have more ownership than the general public understands. The more-educated fans would rather blame creative. Sometimes they just don’t know what else went on and they don’t know a guy’s attitude and they don’t know who phoned something in or who thinks, “Hey, I don’t really even want to get any higher than this.” You have to understand that some guys get on a semi-main event level, and they don’t know that they can handle the pressure of carrying the show. That’s not for everybody. It takes a very unique individual to be a star, and a main event star. The business is so good now financially that guys who are not main-eventers can still earn a great living and prepare for life after wrestling."
It's just a thought. We will never know, but they wanted new champs and they got new champs. It's time to see what they can do.

Sheamus Sits at the Top Table
You wait years for a Brit or Irishman to win a championship in the WWE — and then two come along at once.
Sheamus made history at last night's Tables, Ladders and Chairs pay-per-view by becoming the first ever person from the UK or Ireland to win the company's world title. He did something that not even Davey Boy Smith, Fit Finlay or William Regal could achieve.

Lance Storm Commentary - Booking Hulk Hogan
Let’s be honest, the Hulk Hogan character with his “What you gonna do…” and “Let me tell you something Brother” is 25 years old. It was the hottest act in town for a long, long time, and resulted in the first big boom in wrestling history. After his near decade long run, as the Hulkster, it had run its course, and was losing popularity. Hogan then made another huge impact in the business when he reinvented himself by turning heel and forming the NWO in WCW. This led into the Monday Night Wars and another monster boom in the wrestling business.
After the NWO and Hogan’s heel run, ran its course and WCW lost the Monday Night War to Vince McMahon, Hogan made one more major comeback run in WWE. This was when I got to work with the Hulkster and it was a lot of fun and the guy was still crazy over. I think this return was a success because fans viewed it as a bit of a reunion tour. It was the Hulkster back in the WWE where he belonged, back in the Red and Yellow, and a chance for everyone to see the Baby Face Hogan we all knew and loved one more time.
So fast forward now to January 2010, Hulk Hogan is in his later 50 and trying to make another impact. What can you possibly do with Hulk Hogan in 2010 that will seem fresh and exciting especially when you consider the fact that he can’t physically wrestle much anymore. That’s when I got the idea of Hulk Hogan reinventing himself, one more time, by dropping the Hulk Hogan shtick and presenting himself as real person...More?
Awesome Kong on Top of Her Game
If it wasn't for an annoying little brother, the world of pro wrestling might be without one of its brightest, most dynamic personalities today. “He used to watch wrestling every Saturday morning,” Kia Stevens, better known as TNA ( Total Nonstop Action ) star Awesome Kong, says about her younger brother. “And whenever I’d pass by, he’d attack me and get me into a Camel Clutch. And that’s how I’d stay until one of my parents came into the room.”
Stevens’ brother’s obnoxious behavior, occurring in the middle-class Los Angeles suburb of Carson, Calif., rubbed off onto eight-year-old Kia.
“I eventually started watching wrestling myself, and learning some of the moves,” she says. “Before long, I was able to get him into a Boston Crab.”
And a star was born...More?

Rumor Mill - Umaga's Condition During His Final Days
It is being reported that Umaga had been telling friends that he expected to return to WWE, and that he had reached some sort of agreement with the company that would have seen him return either at or around the time of the Royal Rumble PPV. Apparently the deal was reached with WWE at the time that he committed to working the "Hulkamania" tour, and WWE was attempting to secure Umaga's deal in an effort to thwart Hogan's tour. Umaga of course worked the tour anyways, even though WWE was not happy about it.
Additionally, Hulk Hogan did make an attempt to bring Umaga into TNA, however he told Hogan that he has already committed to working with WWE, and that he felt a certain amount of loyalty to Triple H and Stephanie McMahon as they were the ones who pushed hard for him during his first run with the company.

Family Matters in Pro Wrestling
It's every parent's dream to have their children follow in their footsteps and enter into the family business. It's not as common as one would think, but in professional wrestling, it happens more often than not. Years from now, wrestling fans of different generations will remember names such as Dibiase, Hart, Funk, Orton, Armstrong, Guerrero and McMahon, particularly because more than one member of each family has been there to constantly remind them where they came from.
These days, whenever a father sits with his son to watch a wrestling match and sees a group such as Legacy on the screen, it gives him a chance to reflect back on the old days, when he used to watch their fathers (or in Dibiase's case, his grandmother too!) compete in that same ring years ago. The wrestling business certainly brings families closer together and if nothing else, one thing that every wrestling family has in common is that they are all part of the extended family of sports entertainment...More?

Nothing Tender About WWE's TLC
Like most South Texas teenagers, Shawn Michaels grew up intensely watching wrestling in the early 1980s.

It didn't take long for Michaels to go from performing in front of 50 diehard wrestling fans at the former hole-in-the-wall called Junction on Blanco Road to tens of thousands of diehards at some of the biggest arenas in the world.

Linda McMahon’s detractors range from Bruno Sammartino, a crowd favorite known as “The Living Legend” for his exploits in the ring in the 1960s and 1970s, to Chyna, a popular late-1990s female wrestler who later appeared on the cover of Playboy and wrote a best-selling memoir.

Comedian and radio talk show host Dennis Miller will serve as the host of the 2009 Slammy Awards during a special three-hour presentation of Raw on Dec. 14 from Corpus Christi, Texas. The five-time Emmy award-winning comic is renowned for his improvisations and acerbic humor about pop culture and politics.
Jan. 18, 2010: Jon Heder & Don Johnson
Stars from the soon-to-be-released film When in Rome, Jon Heder and Don Johnson, will take center stage on Raw on Jan. 18 from Knoxville, Tenn. Johnson, meanwhile, who became a popular television icon in the 1980s when starring in the hit series Miami Vice, continues to be an admired Hollywood actor. Their new film is set to be released in theaters on Jan. 29.

Mayweather/Pacquiao & Triple H/Batista
Dave Batista is placing his bet again on Pacquiao when the Filipino ring icon and undefeated American superstar Floyd Mayweather face off in a mega bout slated for March 13.

Batista, who stands at 6-foot-6 and weighs 290 pounds, also admits to getting a lot of ribbing from fellow wrestling star and boxing fan Triple H.
“Triple H is kinda tight with Floyd Mayweather so there’s a constant argument with us,” Batista said laughing. “But at the end of the day he knows that I’m right.”...More?

Despite his cocky attitude, Dolph Ziggler continues to impress his critics and this week was no different in his bout against in-ring veteran Matt Hardy. Ric Flair Contemplating His Next Move
Let the bidding war begin for pro wrestling's hottest free agent: Ric Flair.
The "Nature Boy" is officially back on the market, having just returned to the ring for the first time since a ballyhooed World Wrestling Entertainment "retirement" in March 2008. The 61-year-old Flair worked main events on a tour of Australia with Hulk Hogan.
Flair said he rekindled an old friendship with Hogan that had frayed when both worked under Eric Bischoff in the now-defunct World Championship Wrestling during the 1990s. "It was great," Flair said Wednesday night shortly after returning stateside. "Everything is good between us now, like nothing ever happened."
The big question now is whether Flair and Hogan will re-create that magic in TNA Wrestling...More?

Austin Aries: Wrestlers Leaving ROH is a "Natural Process of this Business"
With former ROH mainstay Nigel McGuinness recently debuting as Desmond Wolfe on Total Nonstop Action Wrestling and Bryan Danielson, another longtime ROH favorite, reportedly getting ready to debut in World Wrestling Entertainment, fans are wondering what it means for the fate of ROH. But Aries, just as Claudio Castagnoli said the last time ROH was coming to the Southland, said fans need not worry.
"It's just a natural process of this business and especially for this promotion," Aries, of Minneapolis, said. "You can go back and look historically. We've had a lot of people, including myself, who have left for other places and the company has continued to thrive. ROH is built around the best young, hungry talent in wrestling, and there's always going to be guys who are willing to step up when opportunities open up. We're trying to get in the position where we can be financially feasible for guys to stay and make a good career in ROH. The name of the game is making money. This is a business, and guys who are going to get an opportunity would be foolish not to take it."

WWE Responds to Jesse Ventura's Negative Comments
Former wrestler Jesse "The Body" Ventura criticized professional wrestling the other day, stating that there needs to be more protection for the wrestlers:
"There's still no unions. They still call them independent contractors. That's the most ridiculous thing I ever heard,'' Ventura said. "They're told when they'll wrestle. .... How is that an independent contractor? An independent contractor is like a plumber. ... These wrestlers aren't working for themselves. It's a scam.''
In remarks reported by our colleague, Daniela Altimari, WWE spokesman Robert Zimmerman said Ventura was speaking as a way to bring attention to "Conspiracy Theory,'' which is his new television show.
"We find it highly hypocritical that Jesse had no problem coming on Monday Night RAW last week to promote his new project or was happy to be paid all those years by the WWE as a performer,'' Zimmerman said by email. "He is just looking to garner additional press for his fledging show, appropriately entitled "Conspiracy Theory."

Rumor Mill - ECW Re-Branding
WWE and the SyFy network have had several meetings regarding the ECW Brand it is being reported that SyFy and WWE are not happy with the ratings that ECW is doing. Internally management knows the ECW letters really do not represent the brand in 2009. The re-branding that has been proposed is dropping the 'ECW' letters being pushed by Executive Vice President Kevin Dunn who has never been a fan of the ECW letters.
A new brand would include a greater focus on the younger talent coming up from WWE developmental which has become a great focus of the current ECW brand in recent months.
source: wrestling-radio.com
I am so hoping this is true. I was never a fan of the "original ECW" and the "new ECW" is a completely different show. If it is going to feature up-and-coming superstars, it should have a different name.

WWE Bloggers: Calm Down
Whether you like it or not, John Cena draws money and crowds. Hulk Hogan drew money and crowds. Triple H draws money and crowds. They are in those spots because they are the people the audience wants to see.
If there are no people paying no money, there will be no show, which then means no Kofi Kingston, or CM Punk, or Randy Orton, or any one of a number of other superstars who I consider to be great enough to make me willing to tolerate John Cena, thus proving that "backstage politicians" serve a purpose as well.
At the end of the day, it's McMahon's call, and it's McMahon's business. He's not going to put a jobber into a permanent main-event slot simply because he knows a friend. But, McMahon might be willing to give that jobber a shot at proving that he is more than just a jobber. The jobber simply has to be willing to go out on a limb and take a chance, and be willing to possibly fail in order to prove he can succeed.
Wrestling bloggers need to calm down. McMahon isn't always right, but he is right way more often than he is wrong.
Step back, calm thyself, and take a rational look at the situation. Then, if that fails, realize that you're sitting in your boxers writing words for an audience that is, at best, 1/1000th the size of Raw's viewership, and that McMahon will be swimming tonight in a pool of self-earned $100 bills, a la Scrooge McDuck.
I think Vince has everything under control.
