Goldberg discusses WWE 2K17 and his WrestleMania moment with Brock Lesnar

Playing games represents a kind of pastime in the WWE Universe, for conniving Superstars or dedicated players of 2K’s venerated series of WWE video games.

For Goldberg, however, video games offer a chance to reintroduce a once-in-a-lifetime competitor like himself to a new era of WWE fans. His legend is supported by a resume which includes an unparalleled 173-match winning streak to start his WCW career and two World Heavyweight Championship reigns. His star power continues to shine brightly, fueled by his meteoric rise in WCW and continued success in WWE, all achieved in only eight years in sports-entertainment.

Now that 2K has presented him as WWE 2K17’s Pre-Order bonus character, legions of fans can start asking “who’s next” to battle the man they call Goldberg for virtual supremacy. As for the man himself, Goldberg recently spoke with WWE.com about his involvement with 2K, his WrestleMania showdown with Brock Lesnar and whether he has one match left in the tank.

WWE.COM: How did you find out that you were 2K’s choice for this WWE 2K17 exclusive?

GOLDBERG: I just got the phone call. It was something that we had been in talks off and on over a number of years. As a father and an ex-wrestler, it's a dream come true. To be able to come back and be included in WWE 2K17, it's a huge honor. That the people would even want me back after such a long hiatus is another honor...More?

Netflix Orders GLOW Episodes

We noted earlier this month that GLOW (Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling) owner Ursula Hayden had announced a deal for a full new season of GLOW TV on Netflix, to be executive produced by Jenji Kohan, creator of Netflix's "Orange Is The New Black" series. The Wrap reports that Netflix has ordered 10 episodes of GLOW, which will focus on a 1980s female wrestling promotion

The show, which was co-created by Liv Flahive of Homeland and Carly Mensch of OINTB, is inspired by the real story of GLOW and will be set in Los Angeles. The fictionalized story features an out-of-work actress who finds one last attempt to live out her dreams in the form of a weekly series about female pro wrestlers.

Big Show Says He Will Always Have A Home In WWE, Talks Current 'Changing Of The Guard', His Future

Big Show recently spoke with The Miami Herald to promote the June 28th WWE SmackDown tapings at the AmericanAirlines Arena. The full interview is at this link and below are highlights:

His current WWE role:

"We've got a lot of young, new, great talent deserving of TV time; they're building their brand. New storylines for them. It's a changing of the guard. I came in as the youngest in the locker-room by 10 years in 1995, and now I'm one of the old ones still out there. I get to go out on weekends and do the live events and help some of the younger kids not make the same mistakes that I made and help them along."

His future and retirement:

"All great things come to an end. So for me I'm looking at projects outside of WWE and maybe moving into something else in the future, but my heart is with WWE. I love helping the younger talent. I love representing WWE like with Make-A-Wish, Be a STAR, Special Olympics. I think I'll always have a home in WWE."

"I've had a great career and had a lot of fun. So whatever happens in the future, I'm gonna take it. If I get a phone call tomorrow, and Vince [McMahon] says, 'Thank you very much. I appreciate everything you've done.' Well, that said, I can hold my head high and go on and do other things. I don't want to ever look back and say, 'I wish I could have,' or 'I wish I would have.' I'm just a guy who is very thankful. I still have my health, and I still get a chance to do something I love every now and then."

Ric Flair Says WWE Has Been Proven Right About Roman Reigns

Recently on Talk Is Jericho, two-time WWE Hall Of Famer, Ric Flair spoke with 'Y2J' Chris Jericho about WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Roman Reigns.

According to Flair, one of Reigns' core competencies is his versatility.

"You really don't know what the crowd is going to do until you go out there through the curtain, right? You can have something all planned out and they're not going to buy it. I mean, that's the great thing about having Roman [Reigns]. I think they struggled with him at first, but with Roman, they've got the best of both worlds. They've got a guy that one day can wrestle Seth Rollins and be the hottest bad guy in the [professional wrestling] business, which that match will be huge when they have it or he can go out and wrestle Hunter and whatever, right? He's good! Yes, [he is versatile], which is a good thing, I think."

Also, Flair is of the opinion that WWE brass has been proven right in backing Reigns all along and that it is impossible for fans to boo him now.

"Look at the match him and AJ [Styles] had [at WWE Payback]. Holy cow! What a match. Start, restart, start, restart. And you know, AJ flies around. [Jericho] should know. He works [Jericho's] style of work, but Roman hung right there with him for 30 minutes. Roman [has] got legs. It makes him a better performer. You can't [boo him] anymore. But he just had to work hard to win them over. But the company just proves everybody right. They did the right thing. Bret [Hart], I just saw Bret the other day, but Bret was hammering the company for the way they treat Roman. Roman's as happy as can be. Bret's fine now too! As long as he can put the Sharpshooter on me, he's happy."

WWE Cancels Sales of New Pabst Blue Ribbon Inspired John Cena Gear, WWE Rep Comments

According to Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, WWE will no longer sell John Cena‘s new Pabst Blue Ribbon inspired shirt, despite the company feeling they did nothing wrong in the first place.

A rep for WWE says, “As a content creator, WWE respects trademarks and intellectual property, and therefore will not proceed selling the merchandise, despite it being an original design clearly within fair use.”

WWE issued a Tweet featuring Cena’s new gear yesterday, and Pabst reacted with a Tweet which seemed to threaten WWE and Cena with a cease and desist. You can check out Pabst’s Tweet below, and WWE has deleted its original Tweet featuring photos of the new Cena gear:

WWE wins important rulings in concussion lawsuits

Two of the concussion lawsuits (Haynes and McCullough et al.) against WWE have been dismissed outright, whilst another one (LoGrasso and Singleton) had all but one of their claims against the company dismissed.

Last week WWE won several important rulings in the class action concussion lawsuits that have been filed against the company by former wrestlers in which they had argued a laundry list of complaints involving fraudulent and negligent behaviour:

"Plaintiffs allege that they are either suffering from symptoms of permanent degenerative neurological conditions resulting from traumatic brain injuries sustained during their employment as wrestlers for WWE or are at increased risk of developing such conditions. Plaintiffs claim that they were injured as a result of WWE’s negligence in scripting violent conduct and failing to properly educate, prevent, diagnose and treat them for concussions. Plaintiffs also claim that WWE had knowledge of evidence suggesting a link between repeated head trauma that could be sustained during WWE events and permanent degenerative neurological conditions such as CTE and either concealed such evidence, fraudulent or negligently denied that it existed, or failed to disclose it in the face of a duty to disclose. Plaintiffs allege that they relied on such fraudulent statements or omissions to their detriment in making decisions regarding their health."

WWE had filed motions to dismiss all of the lawsuits against the company. Judge Vanessa Bryant ordered on March 21st that the lawsuits brought by Billy Jack Haynes and the group of Russ McCullough, Ryan Sakoda and Luther Reigns be completely dismissed, whilst she also dismissed all but one of the claims made by Vito LoGrasso and Evan Singleton. No ruling was made on the wrongful death lawsuits by the families of Nelson Frazier, Jr. (aka Mabel, Viscera and Big Daddy V) and Matt Osborne (aka the original Doink The Clown), but it is likely that they will also be partially or outright dismissed in the near future too.

Bryant in her memorandum explaining her decisions was critical of how the lawsuits were filed noting how all three complaints contained "nearly identical factual allegations" and were "excessively lengthy, including large numbers of paragraphs that offer content unrelated to the Plaintiffs' causes of action and appear aimed at an audience other than this Court."

WWE Studios Announces Its Next Movie Will Feature Six WWE Superstars

WWE announced today that WWE Studios plans to make another installment of the “Marine” franchise, which starred John Cena in the first film back in 2006.

The new movie will see The Miz reprise his role from the last two Marine movies, and the film will co-star Miz’s wife Maryse, Curtis Axel, Bo Dallas, Heath Slater and Naomi.

The film is set to begin filming on May 31st, and the following is the plot synopsis issued by WWE:

“The Miz returns as Jake Carter, an ex-Marine who served in the Middle East and is now saving civilian lives stateside as an EMT. After responding to an emergency call in an abandoned parking lot, Carter finds himself protecting an injured man from a ruthless biker gang. With the odds stacked against him, Carter utilizes his unique Marine skills to stop the bikers’ rampage before any more innocent blood is shed.”

Hulk Hogan Gets Another Win Over Gawker, Hogan's Billionaire Backer Speaks Out, Gawker CEO Responds

Hulk Hogan got another victory in court this week, as a judge in Florida denied a motion by Gawker for a new trial and to have the verdict dropped or reduced. According to The New York Times, Gawker argued that documents that were sealed during the trial should have been made available to the jury, which included Hulk Hogan's racist comments. They also stated that the objectivity of the jurors had been tainted, and that no other Florida defendant had ever been awarded such a large amount in similar cases.

As noted, it was revealed that Peter Thiel, the billionaire co-founder of PayPal, secretly bankrolled Hogan's lawsuit against Gawker and paid approximately $10 million for the suit. A lawyer for Gawker argued that Thiel was new discovery material, but the judge refused to look at articles regarding Thiel's involvement.

Thiel, a pledged delegate for Donald Trump for the 2016 Republican National Convention, has held animosity towards Gawker ever since the website outed him as gay in 2007 in this article titled, Peter Thiel is totally gay, people.

"It's less about revenge and more about specific deterrence," Thiel told The New York Times this week, after it was revealed that he was funding Hogan's case. "I saw Gawker pioneer a unique and incredibly damaging way of getting attention by bullying people even when there was no connection with the public interest."

Thiel added that "even someone like Terry Bollea who is a millionaire and famous and a successful person didn't quite have the resources to do this alone."
